"Younger of Hailes" had safe conduct from Edward III 1343 to visit Tomb of St Thomas of Canterbury and in 1364 to persue studies in Oxford. He and his father greatly contributed to Scottish victory at Otterburn 1388. Killed at Nisbet Moor 1402 fighting the Percies.
